Ruto was speaking during an exclusive interview with Citizen TV on Thursday where he stated that it was unfortunate that very many deputy presidents, including him, are fought. However he said that he had no regrets whatsoever.
“I have no regrets whatsoever, but I have done the best I could. I think we have done well. Maybe there would have been room for improvement but I am satisfied with my performance as Deputy President,” he stated.
The DP alleged a plot to kick him out of government. Ruto admitted his association with UDA, and disclosed that president Uhuru Kenyatta had isolated him, prompting his allies to come up with a new political outfit. He revealed that his space was taken away by other people.
“After 2017 elections, some group came up with ‘Stop Ruto Movement.’ Then they demonized me as corrupt individual and said that they would do a lifestyle audit. They removed everybody with semblance of being my friend from government,” Ruto said.
Lack of Opposition in Kenya
He revealed that he had never complained since the president started to elevate ODM leader Raila Odinga. According to Ruto’s school of thought there is no opposition in Kenya and went ahead referring Raila as a former opposition leader.
Ruto further stated: “If the President decides to elevate other people, consult more with the former leader of opposition, I have taken it with grace. You have not heard me complain.”
The DP further defended himself over the inspection of government projects. He claimed that when he was inspecting projects in 2013 and 2017, nobody complained.
