Kenyans are increasingly vocal about the need to tackle exam cheating in national assessments like KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education), KPSEA, and the newer KJSEA.  This issue has long plagued the education system, with widespread reports of malpractices including impersonation, leaked papers, use of mobile phones, and collusion involving students, invigilators, center managers, and even principals. Recent Developments (2025 KCSE Cycle) In the 2025 KCSE exams, authorities reported 418 cases of exam malpractice — down from 614 in 2024. This marks a modest improvement, but the numbers still highlight a persistent problem. Arrests have been frequent: Dozens of individuals (including students, center managers, and impostors) were detained countrywide. Cases involved impersonation (e.g., adults writing for candidates) and smuggling of phones or materials.   The education transition in Kenya, particularly the shift to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the 100% transition policy, has posed significant challenges to small institutions.  Many of these schools are struggling to cope with the changes, leading to concerns about their sustainability. On the positive side, the government has made significant strides in increasing access to education, with a 97% school transition rate from primary to junior secondary school. The results of the 2025 KCSE examination have officially been released by the Ministry of Education. 2025 KCSE candidates is the third last cohort of the 8-4-4 system, ahead of the competency based education curriculum. According to the ministry of education, 1,932 candidates scored a mean grade of A in the 2025 KCSE examination. 270,000 candidates out of 993,000 attained the mean grade of C+ and above, and eligible to pursue University degree courses in varied fields. 418 candidates cheated in the 2025 KCSE examination and their results were cancelled. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba briefed President William Ruto about the results ahead of its official release. To Check the 2025 KCSE Results 1.   Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has adopted a new technology system to prevent exam cheating in KCSE examination. The technology has been deployed at the containers that store KCSE examination papers.  Smart padlock used to lock the containers relay real-time information when the container is opened and when it is being closed. This prevents any unathorized access to the container before or after the prescribed time. KNEC CEO David Njengere announced the adoption of the smart padlocks as 2025 KCSE exams kickedoff on Monday.
