How a Semiconductor formed the basis of modern-age Computing

Semiconductors are substances that exhibit both electrical conductivity and electrical non-conductivity. How useful is a Semiconductor? They are mostly deployed in computers among other electronic appliances. They are an important component of electronic devices owing to their ability to control and manage the flow of an electric current. Semiconductors can be compounds like gallium arsenide, or pure elements like silicon or germanium. Semiconductors, also referred as Micro Chips or Integrated Circuits, are tiny fragments of Silicon and related raw materials altered through doping so that they can sometimes conduct electricity and sometimes not. Doping entails the addition of small amounts of impurities to the pure substances with the aim of causing changes in their electric conductivity. Micro Chips use a binary language that only recognizes 0s and 1s thus allowing them to be used as electric switches . Semiconductors are used in the manufacture of various electronic devices such a

Lessons Learned from Japan’s adoption of Robots in the Service Sector

Apart from spurring productivity, studies of service sector robots in Japan indicate that robot adoption have helped to mitigate turnover problems among workers and augmented some employment chances among both regular and non-regular employees in the care service. Professionals believe that robots could lessen challenges that face both long term workers in the care sector and the ageing population. Robots have been assumed as a poor substitute to the several tasks demanding deftness and compassion, but Japan has adopted robots to address the shortage of care workers in relation to the surging demand for enduring care services. The plummeting number of care workers in Japan is attributed to the physical consequences like lower back pain and yet their wages is almost at par with the minimum wage. Robots have proven to be the best alternative to the plunging number of care providers, as they can assist in offering basic services such as bathing, toileting and eating. According

Google AI demonstrates the Expertise that can turn your Past Image to 3D Cinematic Photos

Google launched cinematic photos on December 2020 to help people remember some of their most precious moments. Cinematic photos can transform a single 2D photo that was taken in the past “into a more immersive 3D animation.” The conversion of 2D to 3D images involves simulating camera movement and parallax by inferring 3D depictions in an image. Just like the past computational photography, cinematic photos require a depth map for the provision of information regarding the 3D structure of a scene. The technology that sustains depth estimation on smartphone relies on a geometry method and a multi-view stereo to concurrently capture multiple images at different viewpoints in order to solve for the depth of objects. Google AI trained a convolutional neural network to activate cinematic photos on pictures that were not captured in multi-view stereo. The process used an encoder-decoder architecture to speculate a depth map drawn from “a single RGB image.” Median filtering wa

Engineer Develops Robotic Glove that uses AI to boost Muscle Grip

An engineer from Edinburg has developed a robotic glove that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen muscle grip . The idea came into inception after Ross O’Hanlon pitied his aunt who suffers from multiple sclerosis.  O’Hanlon is quoted by BBC saying that: “Being an engineer, I decided to use technology to tackle the challenges ahead with the aim of helping people like my aunt to retain their autonomy.” His aunt struggled to do simple tasks like changing the TV channel or handling a glass of water. The glove will help many individuals with hand weaknesses. The wearers intention to grip is detected by the glove through a process referred as electromyography (EMT). EMT measures the electrical process that is developed in response to simulation of the muscle by the nerves. An algorithm is then deployed to convert the intention to grip into force, enabling the person with hand weakness to hold an item or do some other tasks. According to BBC, about 2.5 million of people
