How to Apply Machine Learning That will bolster your Business Operations

Machine learning (ML) refers to a set of tools that can be used to facilitate making predictions and decisions based on existing data. ML tasks are based on available data that is observed through instructions or experiences. DataCamp Data Scientist Dr Hugo Bowne-Anderson defines ML as “the science and art of giving computers the ability to learn and make decisions from data without being explicitly programmed.” ML can be used in real business to forecast customer attrition. Often businesses are required to analyze market trends and map a better way to predict customer churn. In the era of big data and machine learning, predicting consumer abrasion is not a walk in the park. Businesses are increasingly becoming data-driven making it essential for the adoption of data visualization to make it easier to analyze. Machine learning entails collecting data, cleaning it, training the algorithm and then applying it. To make work easier it’s advisable for businesses to apply four m

Lessons Learned from Japan’s adoption of Robots in the Service Sector

Apart from spurring productivity, studies of service sector robots in Japan indicate that robot adoption have helped to mitigate turnover problems among workers and augmented some employment chances among both regular and non-regular employees in the care service. Professionals believe that robots could lessen challenges that face both long term workers in the care sector and the ageing population. Robots have been assumed as a poor substitute to the several tasks demanding deftness and compassion, but Japan has adopted robots to address the shortage of care workers in relation to the surging demand for enduring care services. The plummeting number of care workers in Japan is attributed to the physical consequences like lower back pain and yet their wages is almost at par with the minimum wage. Robots have proven to be the best alternative to the plunging number of care providers, as they can assist in offering basic services such as bathing, toileting and eating. According

Google AI demonstrates the Expertise that can turn your Past Image to 3D Cinematic Photos

Google launched cinematic photos on December 2020 to help people remember some of their most precious moments. Cinematic photos can transform a single 2D photo that was taken in the past “into a more immersive 3D animation.” The conversion of 2D to 3D images involves simulating camera movement and parallax by inferring 3D depictions in an image. Just like the past computational photography, cinematic photos require a depth map for the provision of information regarding the 3D structure of a scene. The technology that sustains depth estimation on smartphone relies on a geometry method and a multi-view stereo to concurrently capture multiple images at different viewpoints in order to solve for the depth of objects. Google AI trained a convolutional neural network to activate cinematic photos on pictures that were not captured in multi-view stereo. The process used an encoder-decoder architecture to speculate a depth map drawn from “a single RGB image.” Median filtering wa

How Cloud Computing is deployed to Track NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover

Cloud computing is credited for helping to keep NASA Perseverance Mars Rover on track. Lead cloud provider, Amazon Web Services (AWS) , has demonstrated how cloud computing is deployed in transforming the data that is sent to the earth from NASA’s Perseverance explorer on Mars. NASA Perseverance Rover reached the red planet on February 18 after traveling for a period of 100 days. Its mission on Mars will be processed and hosted in AWS . Since the rover touched the red planet, the team has been receiving numerous images every day from the cameras. According to AWS, the cloud will help NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to collect samples, store and then process and distribute huge volume of data. NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a roaming smartphone packed with sensors, a camera and a microphone that is used to collect data. “The rover requires visibility to drive, so it is important for the team to be able to send the next batch of instructions back to the rover within a speci

How Quantum Computer can be 3 Million times Faster than Classical Computer

Scientists have demonstrated how quantum computer could function up to three million times faster than a classical computer.  The study that was conducted by researchers from quantum computing D-Wave, established that using a procedure dubbed quantum annealing; they could simulate resources up to three million faster than it would yield with conforming classical methods. The study was conducted by D-Wave together with a team of researchers from Google. The research finding concluded that quantum annealing processors had a comparative computational advantage as compared to classical central processing unit (CPU). In the research, scientists provided clear evidence on how quantum effects can be harnessed to provide computational performance advantage.  “This work is the clearest evidence yet that quantum effects provide a computational advantage in D-Wave processors,” stated the director of performance research at D-Wave, Andrew King.  King and his team used D-Wave 2,000-q

Global Freshwater Fish on the Verge of Extinction, Study Reveals

Fresh water fish population is under threat of extinction. Study has indicated that the global population of migratory freshwater fish has plunged by 76 percent since 1970. Populations of larger fish species had declined by “catastrophic” 94%. The reduction of freshwater fish species is as a result overfishing, destructive fishing practices, invasive species, pollution, disruption of river ecologies and climate change . Irrigation and construction of dams was listed as a disruptive habitat that interfered with the existence of freshwater fish. A report that was published by 16 global conservation organizations, dubbed The World’s Forgotten Fishes indicated that 16 freshwater fish species were declared extinct in 2020. World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which was part of the investigative team, revealed that only 15% of UK Rivers had decent ecological status. WWF further revealed that the leading damage was caused by sewage outflows and farm pollution. In UK waters, the burbo

Rush to Referendum: BBI Bill Surpasses the Constitutional Threshold in Counties

It was indeed a ‘Super Tuesday’, as had earlier been predicted by ODM leader Raila Odinga. The move to amend Kenya’s constitution through a referendum saw a green light on Tuesday, when majority of County Assemblies approved the BBI bill . In Murang’a County, MCAs approved the bill to the chagrin of Senator Irungu Kang’ata. Murang’a MCAs unanimously voted in favor of BBI. Kang’ata had earlier written a letter to the president informing him that BBI was unpopular in Murang’a County. Kenyans on Twitter teased the former majority whip for conducting a shallow research.  BBI received a backlash from a section of activists who alleged that MCAs were bribed with ‘a car-grant promise’ for them to pass the BBI-driven constitutional amendment bill. So far, only one county has opposed the BBI bill and that is Baringo County. Most counties within the backyard of deputy president William Ruto are yet to pass the bill, in what one political pundit alluded as ‘a clear instruction to wait

According to CoinDe

How Cryptocurrency will Shape the Future of Monetary Systems

As the world undergoes digital revolution, the future of financial engagements will be under the confines of a virtual environment and the internet. The financial sector is on the verge of shifting from traditional approach to the digital one, where the speed of the process is the mantra. Cryptocurrency is fast gaining traction as top investors embrace the idea of investing in digital currency. The currency exists virtually and doesn’t have a centralized issuing and regulatory authority. It’s brought into the digital platform through a process referred as mining – a procedure that has to be verified in a global ledger called the Blockchain. Deutsche Bank described the current money system as fragile and speculated that by the year 2030, cryptocurrencies will surge to over 200 million users globally. It suggested that digital currency could, in the future, replace tangible cash. In 2021, Tesla co-founder decided to invest $1.5 billion in bitcoin and immediately after his i

Raila’s ‘I won’t endorse anyone’ Remarks Spark Acrimony from his NASA Counterparts

ODM leader Raila Odinga has received sharp backlash over his remarks that he “won’t endorse anyone.” Raila had accused his NASA colleagues for failing to show up at his illegal swearing-in at Uhuru Park. Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC Party released a statement on Sunday in reaction to Raila’s sentiments. “It’s not our wish to get into a spat with Raila. However, it’s important that Raila learn to speak the truth. Mr Raila knows what he alleges against his colleagues is exactly what he did to them – lied to them before sneaking to Uhuru Park,” the statement read in parts.  The message further read: “In Raila’s own words, he faked a swearing-in to accelerate his yearning for a handshake with Uhuru.”  In a similar tone Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka lambasted Raila and said that he could not have participated in an illegal and unconstitutional oath.  Earlier on, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula articulated that Raila ought to return his favor for the decade-old support they had given

Mwende Mwinzi ‘ambassadorial’ Appointment Ignites Uproar as Kenyans demand for Miguna’s Return

The appointment and final posting of Mwende Mwinzi as a Kenyan ambassador in Seoul has sparked countrywide uproar. MPs were the first ones to raise the salvo of how Mwende was posted without their approval. Kenyans called for the revocation of Mwende’s appointment by Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenya legislators demanded Mwende to renounce his US citizenship first. He had been rejected by the National Assembly due to her dual citizenship. President Uhuru Kenyatta had appointed Miss Mwende as Kenya’s ambassador to South Korea. The House uproar trickled down to Kenyans on twitter (KOT), who demanded that Miguna Miguna be allowed to jet, back to the country as he was a Kenyan citizen by birth. Miguna was deported to Canada after he participated in an illegitimate oath that saw ODM leader Raila Odinga ‘sworn’ as the People’s President. One twitter user wrote: “Ambassador Mwende Mwinzi is a Kenyan. I wish her all the best in Seoul. It’s also time to allow Miguna Miguna come home.” Another

Why Former UNCTAD Secretary General, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, is Well-Placed to Succeed President Uhuru

Kenya’s politics is gradually becoming toxic as 2022 draws nigh. The assumption of a two-race affair exacerbates the situation as deputy president William Ruto takes the challenge to countenance the influence of his possible rival Raila Odinga. The entry of former trade and industry minister and immediate former secretary general for United Nations conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) , Dr Mukhisa Kituyi into the presidential contest might be a blessing in disguise as it will tone down the country’s division among ‘hustlers’ and ‘dynasties.’ Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi is well placed to become the fifth President of Kenya . The former Kimilili legislator is well-hoisted above the local plebeian, cast in an international image, ready to chauffer Kenya to the global scene. UNCTAD pitched Dr Mukhisa Kituyi on its  official website as a person who “has an extensive background as an elected official, an academic and a holder of high government office. He also has wide-ranging ex

Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) the End of ‘Man’s Slavery'?

As the world continues to be pervaded by rapid technological advances characterized by increased automation and demand for cloud storage, there has been a notion that human work is set to be displaced with artificial intelligence (AI). According to a report published on Forbes Magazine , Stanford is planning to host an event dubbed: “Intelligence Augmentation: AI Empowering People to Solve Global Challenges.”  The imminent function was prompted by the misguided belief that AI will drive many individuals jobless. Several AI researchers have advanced the narrative that “AI will supplement humans rather than substituting them.”  “AI is going to bring humans and machines closer together. It is not about machines replacing humans. Humans and machines have different relative strengths and weaknesses, and it’s about the combinations of these two that will allow human intents and business process to scale,” business leader Robin Bordoli was quoted by the Forbes Magazine. Bordoli’s

Cisco and AWS collaborates on Integrating AWS IoT Core and Cisco Edge Intelligence

Cisco has announced that it would collaborate with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud on the integration between AWS Core and Cisco Edge intelligence software. The move will enhance seamless movement of data from the network’s edge to AWS.  In a blog post released by Cisco , the company compared data to ‘new oil’ that required extraction, processing and delivery. The move is meant to reduce the cost of migrating all internet of things (IoT) data to the cloud. The company is seeking to end barriers of converting edge data to insights. The integration makes it easier to extract, process, govern and deliver edge data to AWS. Using the same platform to transform data makes the process more consistent. The end-to-end integration allows data to be secured on its transformation journey from the edge to the cloud. This is enhanced by the “numerous authentication and transport security protocols.” Michael McKenzie, General Manager IoT Connectivity and Control for AWS, said: “Cisco has

Magufuli still in ‘Covid-19 Denial,’ as Tanzanians Risk Massive Infection

Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli has declined to admit the presence of Covid-19 in the country. His facts are proving him wrong as Tanzanians continue to succumb to the virus. Unsubstantiated reports allege that a number of senior officials are in intensive care. Tanzanians are staring at a crisis as a result of their president not heeding to the global demand of state-sanctioned restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19. Magufuli has even rejected the vaccines and Tanzanian no longer wear masks or practice social distancing.  Magufuli declared Tanzania Covid-19 free in 2020 and has continued to maintain his stance; even as hospitals fill up with patients and funerals burgeon. Zanzibar’s first vice president Seif Sharif Hamad died of coronavirus. Within a day, Tanzania Chief Secretary of State John William Kijazi also died as a result of Covid-19 related complications. Former Presidential aspirant Tundu Lissu derided Magufuli for relying on herbal medicinal and p

Australian Publishers Pay the Ultimate Prize of 'News Media Code' via Facebook Ban

Facebook has damaged ‘its Reputation,” Australia Reacts after the company banned publishers from sharing their content on the social media platform. The decision by the global social media giant to prohibit Australian publishers will drastically reduce their income. Giant social media Facebook blocked Australian from posting or viewing news content on its site on Thursday. The decision was prompted as a counter-reaction to the federal government’s news media code . Facebook’s Australian and New Zeal managing director Will Easton said that the sanction would bar links to Australian publishers from being shared on their platform. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg had called for a half an hour meeting with Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg. Frydenberg stated that the tech giant had “damaged its reputation.” Australian government has termed Facebook ban as “heavy handed.” Frydenberg told reporters on Thursday that: “Facebook was wrong. Facebook’s actions were unnecessary, they were heavy-h

Light Can be used to Sense Quantum Information in a Dense Nuclei Cloud

Quantum computing is gaining traction as researchers are coming up with fine technologies to boost the juvenile field of Information Technology (IT).  Researchers have devised a way to control the behavior of a cloud of atomic nuclei.  Scientists have found a method to deploy light and an electron to communicate with a cloud of quantum bits and detect their performance. The technology enables light to sense a single quantum information that is stored in a dense nuclei cloud. Researchers from Cambridge University injected a ‘needle’ of highly fragile quantum data in a ‘haystack’ of 100,000 nuclei. They then used laser beam to control a single electron. The electron has the ability to control the behavior of the ‘haystack.’ The technology enables highly fragile information to be sent optically to a nuclear system for storage. The study showed how the quantum information would be easily detected by the ability of scientists to manipulate the spin. The study is closely pinned
