How a Company fall Victim of the Same Ransomware attack twice

The anonymous Company fall victim of ransomware twice, thus sending a cautionary alert to organizations that will in future risk to be affected. Companies are advised to concentrate in finding out what enabled the attack than doing anything else.

The victimized Company paid millions in order to access the decryption key to reinstate their network. In less than two weeks the attackers were back with the same style. The company failed to identify the weakest link in their network prompting the company to pay the second ransom after infiltration.

UK National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) detailed the occurrence in a report dubbed as “The rise of ransomware” as a lesson to other organizations. In a detailed report, NCSC accounts how the modern ransomware is distinct, owing to the techniques deployed.

NCSC advice to those who have suffered the wrath of ransomware, is to analyze the incident with ‘how did it get their?’ The question could be addressed through prevention of compromise and reduction of the consequences of an assault when it occurs. 

Ransomware has shifted from ‘locking away account users’ to the threat of displaying the stolen confidential data. System redundancy and backups piled pressure on the operational shift of ransomware attackers.
