China has put measures to curb state officials from using Tesla electric vehicles over security concerns. According to The Telegram, China fears that the cars could be used for spying.
The Chinese government will prevent government officials and military personnel from using cars that are manufactured from Elon Musk’s Tesla Company. China is skeptical that the cars could be used to record video footage and secretly sent data to the US.
In a rejoinder Tesla stated: “Tesla’s privacy policy complies with Chinese laws and regulations. Tesla attaches great importance to the protection of users’ privacy.”
The Electric car maker is facing resistance by the Chinese authorities who believe that the sensors and cameras attached to the electric cars could be a cyber-hazard. The sensors and cameras are placed on Tesla-made cars meant to aid in its autopilot lane assist mode.
According to Wall Street Journal (WSJ), china recorded about $6.6 billion sales to Tesla in 2020. It has been reported that Chinese military banned Tesla cars from accessing military housing due to security concerns.
Beijing officials said on Monday that Tesla representatives had been summoned by Chinese regulators over reported technical problems with their vehicles.
The State Administration for Market Regulation stated that: “Consumers have cited multiple problems, related to unusual accelerations, batteries catching fire, as well as with remote update system.”
