Former president Mwai Kibaki’s aide has dismissed claims that the retired Head of State is admitted at hospital. A rumor had emerged that Kibaki was among the VIPs who had been admitted at Nairobi hospital alongside opposition leader Raila Odinga and Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli.
Kibaki was reportedly admitted at Nairobi hospital. However, his private secretary Ngari Gituku has dismissed the reports by stating that Kibaki has been undergoing routine check-ups.
According to the Star newspaper, Kibaki was taken ill on Sunday evening in what was described as “low blood pressure.” Ngari allayed fears of Kibaki’s health and dismissed the allegations of his admission at Nairobi hospital.
“The retired President has not been admitted to any hospital. But of course the retired President has been going for routine check-us. The information you have come up with is news to me,” Ngari reportedly told the Star on phone.
Kibaki who served as the third president of Kenya has maintained a low profile life since 2013 when he handed power to Uhuru Kenyatta. He was last seen in public on February 2020, when he turned to parliament to pay his last tribute to his predecessor Daniel Arap Moi, who was by then lying in State.
