The Tech Israel uses to intercept rocket attacks from Gaza

You may be wondering the type of technology that Israel is using to bomb specific Gaza buildings believed to be terrorist hideouts, or even intercepting rockets directed to them from Gaza.

Israel Military has been using Iron Dome mobile all-weather air defense system to defend itself against its enemies. However, Israel attack on Gaza has been widely condemned as UN Security Council deliberate on how to broker ceasefire.

What Air Dome does

Israel Iron Dome technology is a multi-mission mobile air defense system that has the ability to intercept artilleries, rockets, mortar and precision guided munitions such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, aircrafts and short range air defense systems.

In Israel Palestine conflict, Iron Dome has been used by Israel to reduce the number of civilian fatalities from Gaza propelled rocket attacks. The deployment of Iron Dome was as a result of $205 expedited funding process approved by the US House of Representatives in 2010.

The system that was developed by Israel’s Rafael and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) firms was first deployed near Beersheba by Israel Air force in March 2011. However, US have developed a similar system in aggregation with Raytheon Technologies Corp.

For the first time ever, the system was able to intercept a BM-21 Grad that was launched from Gaza.

In 2012, rocket attacks in Tel Aviv prompted Israel to install an Iron Dome battery at Gush Dan. The latest escalation of Israel Palestine crisis has led to the application of Iron Dome air defense system to intercept and bring down barrage of rockets from Gaza.

Features of Iron Dome air defense system

Iron Dome comprises of three basic features that include battle management and weapon control, detection and tracking radar and missile firing unit (MFU).

The control system was created by an Israel software company named mPrest Systems, while the radar system was developed by Israel Defense Company called Elta.

The powerful iron Dome system contains a day and night and all seasoned capability to repulse swiftly sprouting threats and multitask in its functionality. The system is capable of analyzing the magnitude of threat and launches an interceptor in retaliation.

The Type of Rockets Hamas is using

Hamas military dubbed Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades has developed and deployed Qassam, which is a simple, steel artillery rocket.

The rockets are believed to be indiscriminate when directed to targeted points. Their inability to be fired to specific military targets, has led to several wastage in the Hamas war against Israel, unlike the Israel directed missiles that have been hitting particular buildings.

Media reports affirm that some of the rockets fired from Hamas are hitting their own territory, instead of attacking Israel grounds.

Why Matiang'i comeback threatens Ruto's re-election bid
