T he Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has begun preparations for 2022 general elections in Kenya. This comes in the wake of the appointment of 4 IEBC Commissioners by President Uhuru Kenyatta to replace the election officials who had resigned. IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati held a consultative meeting with the media at Mombasa on Monday where he briefed the nation about his commission’s preparations. Chebukati confided the plans to guide IEBC operations. The election plan has been put on the public domain. The commission chair stated that two-third gender rule will be adhered to. IEBC pledged to scrutinize Party’s nomination process to ensure the adherence of gender parity. The Constitution of Kenya prescribes that general elections should be held after every five years on the first Tuesday of August.
