President William Ruto has finally urged the Gen Zs to forgive him.
Ruto was forced to seek forgiveness after being requested by Rickey Bolden, an American preacher who had been invited at the 2025 annual National Prayer Breakfast.
“To our children, if there’s any misstep, we apologise,” President Ruto apologised to Gen Zs after a request from Pastor Bolden.
Former NFL player-turned-pastor Rickey Bolden gave his keynote address on Wednesday during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi.
Rickey Bolden prayed that Kenya leaders would apologise to the Gen Z for the massive arrests and closing down the internet.
In June 2024, the government of Kenya had deployed the police to stem down the Gen Z protests that was held in various towns, including the Capital City of Nairobi.
The young generation, christened as Gen Zs, were protesting against punitive tax measures that had been introduced in the 2024/2025 Finance Bill.
Bolden urged the government of Kenya to rebuild its relationship with Gen Zs. "They respect you, but they don’t feel respected," he asserted.
Dr. Rickey Bolden further stated that one of the most frustrating thing to happen to a Gen Z was being treated as a child. He disclosed how he started praying to God, that the elder generation would apologise to the Gen Zs in Kenya.
“Wouldn’t it be beautiful if the leaders said to the Gen Z- We had you arrested, and we are sorry,” posed the American preacher.
What Gen Zs want
Dr Rickey Bolden unearthed the demands and standards of the Gen Zs to the chagrin of Kenya topbrass leaders.
He informed the Safari Park congregation that Gen Zs wanted their leaders to respect them as some of them prove to be wiser than them.
He revealed how he had learned to treat his own Gen Zs as adults and consulted them.
