Nature should be let to take its course, devoid of human encroachment.
Many parts of Kenya including major cities like Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu witness major floods during rainy seasons due to poor urban planning.
Construction of buildings along waterways cause obstruction to the natural water flow.
In rural areas, excessive cultivation results to blockage of waterways resulting into rampant floods.
Deluge in Kenya is a recurring phenomenon. Human activities are quite often disrupted due to raging effects of floods that raid even living premises leaving scores of people without shelter.
Justice for nature is indeed justice for humanity. When nature is let to take its own way, it has care for humans because both of them have coexisted mutually for ages.
Increased human population has led to scramble for both food and shelter, which are basic needs.
Reduced food production has led to cultivation of places meant to be waterways and even along river banks.
Competition for places to live has led to the construction of houses along waterways and riparian land.
Nature fights back in full fury, in a battle where humans are always pronounced as losers.
The natural justice dictates that nature will always have what was initially meant to be hers.
Long-term solution to preclude Floods in Kenya
The government of Kenya should initiate legislation of laws to prevent construction of buildings along waterways.
County governments should enact laws on land usage in rural areas and create waterways to prevent stagnant waters along pathways.
The government should implement a legal framework to restrict people from living near rivers and swampy areas.
Swampy areas should be regarded as restricted areas for human activities, apart from normal tour to savor the pleasures of nature.
