Mourners and family gathered on Sunday at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Technology (JOOUST) to pay their last respect to Raila Odinga.
The event was graced by local dignitaries and international delegates. Former president Uhuru Kenyatta was among the mourners who hailed Raila as a true statesman.
President William Ruto led the nation in bidding farewell to the fallen patriot who bestrode Kenya politics like a colossal.
Odinga served as the second prime minister of Kenya from 2008 to 2013, through a unity pact, that ended the 2007-2008 post election violence. The skirmishes were triggered after the electoral commission declaration that Mwai Kibaki had won presidency, which was allegedly rigged.
The departed opposition icon shaped Kenya politics for over four decades. He endured detention without trial.
Several leaders across the country and beyond borders paid glowing tribute to the legendary leader who had captured the hearts and imagination of many Kenyans.
The mortal journey of Raila came to an end on October 15 2025 in India, sparking an outpour of grief across Kenya.
Raila perpetuated and immortalized his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga spirit in the liberation journey. He conquered fear and mustered courage.
How Leaders Mourned Raila
President William Ruto used the occasion to thank Raila for giving him the best finance Cabinet Secretary that Kenya has ever had - John Mbadi.
He promised ODM members that he will assist them to strengthen the party and that it would either be part of the next government or form the next government.
Ruto claimed that he accorded the fallen hero all the honors replete with military color because he was the people's president, despite not being a substantial president.
Kalonzo Musyoka: "My brother Raila Odinga, I give you my pledge that I will stand for the values you stood for amid the tears and pain of a stolen election."
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dropped the bombshell by reiterating that the party will present a presidential candidate in 2027.
"Baba told us openly that we must prepare for the 2027 polls. Those saying otherwise are misleading the country. We will follow his last instruction,” the firebrand Nairobi Senator who doubles as ODM Secretary General roared.
Siaya Governor James Orengo rose to the occasion and blasted those who opposed the 2010 constitution of Kenya that Raila spearheaded. This was in reference to president Ruto and a few others who were present.
Raila Odinga was buried at Kang'oka Jaramogi, next to his father's mausoleum.
