President William Ruto has officially launched the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program at Mumias Complex Sports Center in Kakamega County.
The Kshs.5 billion NYOTA program is set to benefit 100,000 youth entrepreneurs.
70 youths in each ward are set to receive the World Bank sponsored grant.
100,000 youth entrepreneurs will be empowered across all the 1450 wards in Kenya.
Each youth will receive Kshs.25,000 in the first round. Later on each of them will receive an additional kshs.25,000 totalling Kshs.50,000.
"NYOTA can help transform Kenya’s development. To achieve the desired outcomes, the program will need to be judiciously implemented, with speed, at scale and with simple and well explained project implementation rules," Qimiao Fan, World Bank Division Director stated.
The grant is meant to enable Kenya youths initiate sustainable business opportunities that will enable them meet their daily needs.
Many youths in Kenya are unemployed and lack a meaningful way to raise revenue.
