Who will be Ruto's running mate in 2027

 


President William Ruto will seek his second and last term in the 2027 general election.

Definitely, the president will factor in what you bring to the table in awarding the contested post of the second precious job in the country. 

In 2022, Ruto chose Rigathi Gachagua to woo the populous agikuyu votes. Now that the region is against him, after Gachagua ouster, he will stand in the rift facing the lake. 

Most likely, Ruto will choose his principal assistant from Luo Nyanza. This strategic choice will be to appease the spirit of Raila Odinga and inherit his orphaned support base.

Ruto will definitely not choose Gladys Wanga, John Mbadi or Opiyo Wandayi. His choice will be largely base on post-Raila era and the numbers you attract.

Prof Kithure Kindiki will not be Ruto's choice in 2027 because he comes from a background that has less electoral votes.

Post- Raila Odinga era

The exit of Raila Odinga was a big blow to president William Ruto. The president knew well that his major opponent, turned supporter, was feebled due to advanced age.

Raila's support for Ruto was out of weariness. The Political General who had bestridden Kenya's politics like a collosal, knew well that he might not outsmart president William Ruto, and that's why he chose to work with him.

Upon Raila's demise, Dr Oburu Oginga was hastly nominated as interim party leader to avoid a vacuum and a reincarnation of the post-Jaramogi Ford Kenya split.

Dr Oburu, coupled with elderly wisdom, managed to calm the political storms that would have sent both Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino to the political cold.

The Siaya Senator doubling as acting ODM Party Leader managed to prevent a major split to enable the party have a stronger bargaining power in 2027.

In a recent TV interview, Oburu alluded that ODM will not settle for anything less than the position of the Deputy President.

Oburu has shown his open dalliance for the youthful brand within ODM.

It's more probable, that ODM will front Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as Ruto's running mate.

Babu is an upcoming politician with a fanatical following. 

Should Ruto settle for Babu Owino as the Deputy President, he would have appeased the spirit of Raila Odinga and won the support of the Gen-Zs who protested against his punitive tax measures in 2024.

Babu Owino is the only politician who can be supported by many young Kenyans and because Ruto will go for numbers that one brings on the table, then the youthful Embakasi East MP might be Kenya's Deputy President in 2027 and beyond.
