Why ODM-UDA merger is set to hit a hard rock

 


Pre-election coalition between two major Parties in Kenya is facing a major hurdle. 

The looming pre-election pact between ODM and UDA is becoming complicated, just days after the Central Management Committee of ODM ratified a resolution that allows its Party Leader Dr Oburu Oginga to lead the negotiations.

ODM is eyeing for the slot of a running mate and increased cabinet positions. This move has rattled UDA mandarins who are of the view that the Deputy President position should be retained by Prof Kithure Kindiki.

President William Ruto embraced the broad-based government arrangement in 2024 when he appointed four cabinet secretaries from ODM.

In 2027, Ruto will be seeking to be reelected for the second term. However, he is likely to face stiff competition from the united opposition.

Reliable sources within ODM have revealed a plan to front Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to deputize Ruto.

Ruto allies led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei have been against ODM's bargaining agitation on the running mate slot.

Will ODM-UDA merger see the light of the day? It is a wait to see, but chances are very slim and ODM might team up with the united opposition to give Ruto a run for his money.
