Kenyan MP among those killed in the ill-fated Plane that crushed in Nandi County

Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Kipyegon Ng'eno was among the six people killed in a tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The incident occurred in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub-county, where the Airbus Helicopters H125 (registration 5Y-DSB) crashed and burst into flames.

Reports indicate the helicopter attempted an emergency landing—possibly due to bad weather—before catching fire shortly after. All six occupants on board perished, with no survivors reported.

Key details from multiple Kenyan news sources:

1. The MP's mobile phone and SIM card were recovered at the scene, aiding identification.

2. Another confirmed victim includes Amos Kipngetich Rotich, an officer with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

3. The remaining four victims' identities are still being formally confirmed by authorities.

4. The helicopter was reportedly on a charter flight, having departed from Nairobi (Wilson Airport area) earlier that day.

Nandi County Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi confirmed the crash and fatalities.

Emergency teams, including police and investigators, are at the site, with figures like Senator Samson Cherargei and Tinderet MP Julius Melly visiting.
