Opposition storm Murang'a County with a Clarion Call to oust Ruto
The United Opposition's clarion call in Murang'a County is centered around uniting the Mt Kenya region and the Akamba community to challenge President William Ruto's re-election bid in 2027.
Leaders led by Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka are pushing for a single opposition candidate, with some backing Gachagua and others supporting Kalonzo Musyoka or Fred Matiang'i.
Their message emphasizes:
1. Unity is key: Combining forces to deliver a winning candidate
2. Change is necessary: Addressing governance issues and corruption
3. Mt Kenya's voice matters: Mobilizing the region's voting bloc
Gachagua has announced plans to announce the opposition's 2027 candidate soon, while
Kalonzo Musyoka urges support for a united front against Ruto's administration.
Murang'a County tour
Fred Matiang'i and Kalonzo Musyoka toured Murang'a on February, 01 2026 as part of the opposition's efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general election.
They were accompanied by other prominent opposition figures, including Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, and Justin Muturi. The tour included a church service in Gitugi, Mathioya Constituency, where they emphasized the need for unity among opposition leaders and warned against government intimidation.
The opposition is pushing for a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027, with Matiang'i emerging as a potential contender backed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, Kalonzo has expressed reservations about Matiang'i's candidacy, citing his relatively young political career.
