The Battle for Mount Kenya: Who is the Most Interested Person


Mount Kenya is mostly associated with Central Kenya. The region draws much attention in the national politics owing to its tyranny of voters.

President William Ruto won the 2022 general elections due to immense support from the vote-rich Central Kenya.

Previously, the region produced two presidents in a row, that's Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.

Raila Odinga failed to clinch the top seat, on several occasions, because of his failure to appeal the populous, vote-rich, Mt Kenya region.

2027 General Elections in Kenya

President Ruto will be seeking reelection for a final term. However, it's going to be an arduous task following his fallout with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua is seeking to revenge his impeachment from the DP position. He is consolidating the region to vote against Ruto.

On the other hand, Kiharu legislator Ndindi Nyoro is also on a similar mission. However, the two are battling to be regional Kingpins.

The former DP is top-notched owing to the overwhelming victory in Ol Kalou parliamentary mini-poll, where his DCP candidate defied all the State-sponsored-machinery odds to clinch the seat.

Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has ganged up with other opposition leaders with a 'wantam' clarion call to oust Ruto in 2027.

Current Party Leaders allied to Gachagua include: Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Eugine Wamalwa (DAP-K), Justin Muturi (DP), Martha Karua (PLP) and Edwin Sifuna of Linda Mwananchi Movement.
