Uhuru Kenyatta reveals how Raila was rigged out in the 2022 Presidential Contest

 

Uhuru Kenyatta has stated that Raila Odinga, who died on October 2025, won the 2022 presidential election, contrary to the official results.

 However, he has not publicly detailed a specific mechanism of how Odinga was allegedly “rigged out.”

On 22 September 2026, during a Jubilee Party National Executive Council meeting in Nairobi, as he handed party leadership to Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Kenyatta said Jubilee had done everything possible to support Odinga’s bid after joining the Azimio campaign. 

He stated, in Swahili, widely reported and translated: “We did everything possible to help Baba become President of Kenya. He received the votes, and to this day, I know that he won that election… We know how things went, and we do not want that to happen again.” 

He also pointed to Azimio’s stronger performance in parliamentary, senatorial, and gubernatorial races as inconsistent with a presidential loss.

Official 2022 results and legal outcome

IEBC declared William Ruto the winner with 7,176,141 votes (50.49%) against Odinga’s 6,942,930 (48.85%).

Four IEBC commissioners publicly dissented from the final declaration process.

Odinga’s petition alleging irregularities, including claims about result forms and the declaration process, was dismissed by the Supreme Court, which upheld Ruto’s victory.

Kenyatta’s 2026 remarks revive long-standing Azimio claims of irregularities but stop short of presenting new evidence or describing concrete methods of alleged fraud. 

Earlier post-election commentary from various figures, include claims of sabotage, distraction, or insufficient state machinery support, has circulated, but Kenyatta himself has not issued a detailed public “revelation” of a rigging process.

Raila Odinga had previously defended Kenyatta against betrayal accusations shortly after the 2022 polls, stating Kenyatta did not use state resources to swing results and that the environment was free and fair. 

Kenyatta’s latest comments align more closely with persistent opposition narratives that the outcome did not reflect the true vote. No independent verification of a specific rigging method has been established in court or by official inquiry.
