2020 Tech Trends that Shaped the World in the Wake of Covid-19

The year 2020 proved to be one of the most challenging years. But thanks to technology, as tech companies rose against time to provide essential services in the wake of unprecedented global pandemic. 5G telecom technology was unveiled to expedite online services.

Covid-19 pandemic set a different trajectory with regard to innovation as scientists, deployed AI systems to hasten the process of vaccine development. The year also witnessed the SpaceX astronaut launch in May and the launch of autonomous self-driving cars.

There was a drastic shift of the way people worked as most Companies embraced remote working. Homeworking will likely be rapidly adopted in 2021. Reports indicate that Companies such as Microsoft, Twitter, Dropbox and Facebook have a significant number of their staff telecommuting.

The streets of Phoenix, Arizona in the USA reportedly have over 300 cars that are being driven without drivers. The self-driving vehicles collect and drop travellers without a human being on control. The project is part of the Waymo One Service and was officially launched in October.

Zoom was the most popular teleconferencing video site in 2020. Various Companies, institutions, organizations and media houses used Zoom to reach their target audience. 

E-commerce platforms such as Amazon were maximally utilized as various countries started enforcing lockdown and travel sanctions. Technology analysts predict more breakthrough in 2021 as the world normalizes homeworking. Airbus launched three concept hydrogen-powered models in September.

According to BBC, Airbus is on a landmark deal with France, Germany, Italy and Spain to develop a large drone dubbed as Eurodrone. In 2021 Rolls-Royce plans to unveil an electric aircraft, christened as the Spirit of Innovation. The Company believes that the sleek aircraft will set a new world speed record of more than 300mph.
