Magufuli still in ‘Covid-19 Denial,’ as Tanzanians Risk Massive Infection

Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli has declined to admit the presence of Covid-19 in the country. His facts are proving him wrong as Tanzanians continue to succumb to the virus. Unsubstantiated reports allege that a number of senior officials are in intensive care.
Tanzanians are staring at a crisis as a result of their president not heeding to the global demand of state-sanctioned restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19. Magufuli has even rejected the vaccines and Tanzanian no longer wear masks or practice social distancing.
Magufuli declared Tanzania Covid-19 free in 2020 and has continued to maintain his stance; even as hospitals fill up with patients and funerals burgeon. Zanzibar’s first vice president Seif Sharif Hamad died of coronavirus. Within a day, Tanzania Chief Secretary of State John William Kijazi also died as a result of Covid-19 related complications.
Former Presidential aspirant Tundu Lissu derided Magufuli for relying on herbal medicinal and prayers.
“In just one day we’ve lost a First Vice President and a Chief Cabinet Secretary to Covid-19. And we hear several senior officials are in intensive care. Obviously Magufuli’s herbal potions and prayers aren’t working. It is time to admit the obvious, change course and save live,” Lissu wrote on twitter.

Why Matiang'i comeback threatens Ruto's re-election bid

Former Interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i is a great rival to President William Ruto in his 2027 re-election contest. Matiang'i is set to give Ruto a run for his money, owing to his track record as a cabinet secretary in the previous regime.  Former President Uhuru Kenyatta trusted Matiang'i more than any other cabinet secretary due to his workaholic nature and might be forced to finance his presidential quest.  The former Interior CS is reportedly eyeing the presidential seat on a Jubilee ticket, as alluded by the party's secretary general Jeremiah Kioni.
