Siaya County Grabs Opportunity to be a Pace-setter of BBI Politics

Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) seems to be a do-or-die political event on the part of ODM leader Raila Odinga. BBI is Raila’s own-metric ahead of the 2022 major presidential battle in which he is poised to face a serious challenge from deputy president William Ruto.
Siaya County became the first county in Kenya to pass the BBI bill. It passed the bill on Wednesday, just a day after Raila’s meeting with ODM MCAs. Raila had urged the MCAs to pass the bill in time. During the meeting Raila rekindled the MCAs car grant debate, which has been strongly criticized by many Kenyans. The MCAs have about three months to debate the bill.
Political problems deserve political solutions. The ‘golden handshake’ between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga changed the political trajectory with respect to succession battle.
The much hyped BBI came into effect as a potential remedy to the perennial challenges that came as a result divisive general elections. According to #BBI architects, BBI was meant to pacify the country and bring everyone on board.
To the contrary, BBI has made the center of the country’s top leadership to drift apart. The dalliance between the president and his deputy is currently water under the bridge. While meeting Mt. Kenya leaders, Uhuru lashed at the wheel barrow economy, terming it as a colonial relic.
The assumption that many political pundits postulate is that there’s a state-driven initiative to throw Ruto at the periphery, to make him oppose BBI before the final disconnect. UDA, the Party affiliated with Ruto, has gained traction in the recent past signifying his possible exit from Jubilee.

Why Ruto will heavily rely on Mudavadi, Joho in his reelection bid

When Kenya president William Ruto was almost overwhelmed with gen z revolt, his landmark decision was to dismiss the entire cabinet. This occurred immediately after his refusal to sign the Finance Bill 2024/2025. Ruto endeavored to reconstitute a new cabinet, dubbed broad-based executive. He incorporated key opposition figures drawn from the ODM Party - a move that appeased the doyen of opposition Raila Amollo Odinga. Cabinet Secretaries drawn from ODM included: Hassan Ali Joho, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, John Mbadi Ng'onga and James Opiyo Wandayi. ODM is as good as dead, and Raila's age factor limits him from flying the Party's presidential flag again and has opted out by contesting as Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairman. President Ruto will heavily rely on two members of his cabinet in his reelection bid. Both Musalia Mudavadi and Hassan Ali Joho are billionaires going by their own assertion while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments. President...
