Tough Test Awaits Charles Owino, in Siaya Gubernatorial Contest, as he Plans to Resign and Join Politics

Police spokesman Charles Owino will expectedly face a serious backlash from Siaya residents as he plans to succeed Governor Cornell Rasanga. Siaya people might not have forgotten how the tough-talking cop defended the police who unleashed terror to ODM during the times of street protests.
Owino revealed that he will seek early retirement on December to venture into politics and contest as a governor for Siaya in 2022. Siaya being an ODM stronghold, he will definitely seek an ODM ticket.
When Raila Odinga’s ODM was contesting against electoral injustices, the police was heavily deployed to thwart demonstrators. Police were largely accused of using excessive force which resulted to numerous extra-judicial killings.
Owino was also seen defending the police who were using excessive force to unleash terror to civilians who contravened state-sanctioned Covid-19 regulations such as being found out during curfew hours and not wearing masks.
“I never wanted to declare my political interest here today but because my father has reminded who am I not to show you a direction, you are aware that next year people will declare interests in various positions and as a person who has worked in the government my age will have clocked 50 which allows me to resign,” stated Owino.
He added: “I know that the seat will attract many contestants including Senator Orengo and I hope he and other possible candidates are much prepared for the race or else they will be disappointed at the ballot box.”
