Google introduces new ‘career certificate’ courses that will enable participants to wade into high-paying jobs without necessarily earning a university degree. Most of the courses will take about six months to complete, unlike most degree programs which take up to around four years to complete.
High education would likely be ‘disrupted’ with Google’s program in four disciplines namely: user experience (UX) design, data analytics, project manager and or IT support professional.
Google explores effective means to give learners everything they require to get employed in their chosen fields at a cost of $39 per month. The total cost will be up to around $240 or lower, depending with how fast one finishes each course.
Upon completion, graduates can share their resume directly with employers such as Verizon, Walmart, Accenture, Deloitte, Bayer and Anthem among others. Google proclaimed that it will open apprenticeship program to aid certificate holders to gain more skills and hire hundreds of apprentices in coming years.
Kent Walker, a senior vice president of global affairs at Google, was quoted by Inc. Magazine, saying that: “We will consider our new career certificates as the equivalent of a four-year degree for related roles.”
The certificate that will be offered by the tech giant will be easily recognized by most companies and industries across the globe because Google is a household name. The programme will be cost-effective. Other employers might emulate Google by designing job training strategies rather than hiring graduates who are inept in industrial skills.
The online certificate course could help employers to rapidly expand their expertise and unraveling hidden talents from diverse localities. Google states that its certificate program is “product agnostic and tailored to help individuals land jobs at any company, across any sector.”
Google is already offering online courses in collaboration with Coursera. Some of the best Google courses are Data Engineering with Google Cloud, Google Cloud Platform and Android Basics. The giant search engine Company also offers a free course dubbed Fundamentals of Digital Marketing.
