Key projects in Kisumu City Bolsters Uhuru, Raila Handshake

Kisumu City slated to hold this year’s madaraka day, as residents reap big from the golden handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. Raila will be acclaimed from the recent rapid development in the region.

The doyen of opposition politics will begrudgingly bestrode Kisumu on Madaraka Day with grace and stride as he hosts Uhuru to lead the nation in celebrating the national event, characterized with Kenya’s past attainment of internal self-rule.

Projects initiated in Kisumu by President Uhuru Kenyatta

The government of Jubilee funded the construction of a Kshs.79million ultra-modern market at Otonglo in Kisumu West Sub-county to accord traders some decent space to execute their business activities.

Jubilee government is credited for the rehabilitation of Kisumu Port which cost the taxpayer Kshs.3billion. The project intended to make Kisumu the economic hub for Western Kenya.

The extended Luo Nyanza, which was initially marginalized by successive regimes, has benefited a lot after Uhuru and Raila chose to put aside their political differences.

President Uhuru, through the Ministry of sports, renamed Kisumu Mambo Leo Ground as Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in mid-2020 and initiated the upgrade process at a cost of Kshs.498million. Upon completion, the stadium will be elevated to a world-class status.

When complete, the stadium will complement Moi Stadium in hosting high profile games such as Premier League and the National Super League.

The Inland Container Depot at Kibos is set to curtail port traffic and to ease the movement of cargo.

The Mbita-Rusinga floating bridge was constructed, to replace the causeway that had been used for more than 30 years, by Uhuru’s government. The bridge that connects Mbita town and Rusinga Island gives way to the main tourist facilities, which include Rusinga Island Lodge and Mbita Tourist Hotel.

Nyanza residents expect more goodies from the national government as they continue wallowing in a miasma of ‘handshake’ blessings.

How Prepared are Nyanza Leaders?

ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o led a delegation of leaders to inspect preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations at Kisumu on May 24.

Kisumu will host Madaraka Day national event amid surging numbers of Covid-19 infections, with cases of Indian variant recorded in the Lakeside City. Governor Nyong’o advised residents to observe Covid-19 protocols and avoid crowded places.

A group of Nyanza legislators met President Uhuru Kenyatta at state House on Friday to discuss about economic challenges facing the region ahead of his Kisumu tour. MP James Nyikal briefly confided to the press some of the details they discussed with the Head of State.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru also attended the State House event.

Scientists have warned that the discord of noise made by humans is harming marine species .  A comprehensive assessment revealed that large noise from human activities was as harmful as pollution, overfishing and climate change .  The study that was conducted by the Journal Science exposed how marine animals can hear from far distances than they can see or smell. According to a report published in the Guardian, most of the marine life uses sound to catch prey as well as attracting a mating partner.  Prof Carlos Duarte of King Abdullah University in Saudi Arabia argued that: “Marine animal can only sea up to around 10 meters, smell up to around a hundred meters, but they can hear across the entire ocean basins.” The research concluded that sound “is very important in the marine ecosystems, and noise is pervasive, affecting animals at all levels .” The increasing cacophony in the marine habitat is interfering with how marine animals respond to various survival...

Why Ruto will heavily rely on Mudavadi, Joho in his reelection bid

When Kenya president William Ruto was almost overwhelmed with gen z revolt, his landmark decision was to dismiss the entire cabinet. This occurred immediately after his refusal to sign the Finance Bill 2024/2025. Ruto endeavored to reconstitute a new cabinet, dubbed broad-based executive. He incorporated key opposition figures drawn from the ODM Party - a move that appeased the doyen of opposition Raila Amollo Odinga. Cabinet Secretaries drawn from ODM included: Hassan Ali Joho, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, John Mbadi Ng'onga and James Opiyo Wandayi. ODM is as good as dead, and Raila's age factor limits him from flying the Party's presidential flag again and has opted out by contesting as Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairman. President Ruto will heavily rely on two members of his cabinet in his reelection bid. Both Musalia Mudavadi and Hassan Ali Joho are billionaires going by their own assertion while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments. President...
