Matiang'i comeback ploy foil on first attempt

Questions continue to arise as to whether the alleged arrest plan of Dr Fred Matiang'i was an act of vengeance or a well choreographed ploy to induce him to the political inner core.

Dr Matiang'i was a key Cabinet Secretary in the previous regime in charge of the security docket. He wielded excess powers, and had much say than the Deputy President.

Citizen TV had reported that the elite police squad had camped the home of Matiang'i to arrest him.

This prompted a quick rebuttal, and a battery of lawyers led by Danstun Omar stormed his Karen home to defend Matiang'i from arrest.

Police IG Japhet Koome has distanced the security forces from the night onslaught.

Interior CS Prof Kithure Kindiki echoed the IG's sentiment to the effect that the police were not involved in the night raid at his predecessor's home.

Azimio Coalition members and their Kenya Kwanza have sharply differed over the imminent arrest of the former Interior CS.

Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah has demanded Matiang'i to produce video clip, showing the police raid of his home

Ichungwah described the arrest news as an avenue to seek sympathy after deteriorating number of political leaders accompanying Raila in Azimio rallies.

ODM Leader Raila Odinga, who had visited Matiang'i home, had castigated the alleged imment arrest of the former firebrand CS.

The question that arises is it true that the State wants to arrest Matiang'i or is he seeking some sympathy to propel him to one of the powerful political posts in 2027? It is a wait to see.

On Thursday, Matiang'i sought anticipatory bail from the High Court owing to his alleged looming arrest.

Why Ruto will heavily rely on Mudavadi, Joho in his reelection bid

When Kenya president William Ruto was almost overwhelmed with gen z revolt, his landmark decision was to dismiss the entire cabinet. This occurred immediately after his refusal to sign the Finance Bill 2024/2025. Ruto endeavored to reconstitute a new cabinet, dubbed broad-based executive. He incorporated key opposition figures drawn from the ODM Party - a move that appeased the doyen of opposition Raila Amollo Odinga. Cabinet Secretaries drawn from ODM included: Hassan Ali Joho, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, John Mbadi Ng'onga and James Opiyo Wandayi. ODM is as good as dead, and Raila's age factor limits him from flying the Party's presidential flag again and has opted out by contesting as Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairman. President Ruto will heavily rely on two members of his cabinet in his reelection bid. Both Musalia Mudavadi and Hassan Ali Joho are billionaires going by their own assertion while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments. President...
