The year 2020, saw the world plunged into the unprecedented global pandemic that almost brought everything to a crushing halt. Thanks to technology, that helped mitigate the adverse effects of Covid-19.
Before the invasion of coronavirus, technological transformation mostly revolved around fancy stuffs like curved televisions, smartphones and smart speakers. But with the new reality brought by Covid-19, technology that was overlooked for long came into focus.
The pandemic has seen the increased use of mobile wallet apps such as Square and Apple Pay as most people embraced contact-free mobile transactions. Credit cards and cash payments significantly reduced in 2020.
Below is a list of tech trends that would likely shape human lives:
1. Online Stores: Companies are building websites that allow users to search for items rather than clicking on a navigation bar. In addition, companies have introduced chatbots to respond to customers’ questions.
2. Smarter Wi-Fi: When the world was struck with coronavirus, many people were always online, thus the global average internet speed slowed down, due to heavy internet traffic. Wi-Fi technology always seeks to address the problem of internet speed. Wi-Fi 6, a new router, focuses on both speed and expands its bandwidth efficiency. Home users consuming heavy data will find Wi-Fi 6 more efficient as the device provides bandwidth to all the gadgets at the same time.
3. Hands-off Technology: Mobile payments were widely used to reduce spread of coronavirus, as majority people embraced touch-less payments. According to Creative Strategies, Ultra-Wide Band technology would be used to enhance contact-free experiences. The technology will be incorporated in smartphones and laptops, and uses a sensor that detects a person’s phone and accepts payment from the user.
4. Work technology: During the pandemic most companies virtualized their operations. Video meetings have been largely embraced as most companies used them to operationalize their works. Video chat apps such as Google Meet, Zoom and Cisco Webex became important work tools.
5. Fitness Technology: Due to lockdown restrictions in most countries, there was increased demand for fitness gadgets such as electric bikes. The technology that caught the attention of many people who fancy physical fitness included wearable technology like Apple Watches, Smart gym and drones
