Uhuru’s Directive in Symbolic Honor of Tanzania Fallen President John Pombe Magufuli

President Uhuru Kenyatta has led Kenyans in mourning the death of his Tanzania counterpart John Pombe Magufuli. In a televised address from State House on Thursday morning, Uhuru declared 7 days of mourning in honor of his departed colleague.
According to Tanzanian authorities, Magufuli died of heart-related complications on Wednesday evening. Uhuru ordered that the Kenyan flag and that of East African Community be flown at half-mast from Thursday until the sunset of Magufuli’s burial day.
Kenyatta described Magufuli as an illustrious leader and an advocate of the Pan-African spirit. He further claimed that he had lost a close ally who was visionary in approach.
“On behalf of the government and people of Kenya, I convey our sincere condolences to the First Lady of Tanzania Janeth Magufuli, the entire Magufuli family and indeed affirm our deep solidarity with the government and the people of Tanzania during this challenging time. Tanzania remains in our thoughts and prayers,” President Kenyatta stated.
Kenyatta further praised the departed colleague for the enormous role he played to propel Tanzania forward and enhancement of the integration of East African community.
Tanzania Vice President Samia Suluhu is expected to take over as the president for the remaining period. Suluhu was the one who broke the sad news of Magufuli’s death on Wednesday night.
